After using the RadioMaster MT12 for some time, what I value most is adapting it to my driving. That also takes the most effort initially: there are many options, and finding the required setting is not always obvious.

The video covers my experience and the functions I care about. It is not yet a from-scratch receiver setup tutorial or a comparative latency measurement.

EdgeTX Makes the Difference

The MT12 runs EdgeTX, organising models, inputs, mixes, outputs and functions to define each control’s behaviour. The official RadioMaster page identifies the system and radio options.

That freedom takes learning. In the video, braking reached maximum before full trigger travel, requiring investigation of several settings. More menus do not help until you understand their relationships.

Saving a configuration per car and reusing a baseline as a template makes the effort worthwhile. I then verify steering, throttle, brakes and travel on the specific vehicle.

My Driving Modes

Buttons and switches select a no-throttle mode, an intermediate mode and full available travel. I also use voice alerts and a mute control.

No-throttle mode is useful when retrieving an overturned car with the transmitter hanging from its strap: it reduces accidental trigger operation. The setup still requires verification and does not replace disconnecting the car before working on it.

I provide no percentages or model file because the video does not supply an import-ready template. Channel limits and direction must be checked for each installation.

4-in-1 or ExpressLRS

Option What I value What to check
4-in-1 Reusing receivers from different cars with one radio. Exact protocol and compatibility: it is not universal.
ExpressLRS Working within that ecosystem and adding compatible receivers. Receiver, firmware, configuration and system features.

My transmitter is the ExpressLRS version. An external RF module bay leaves future options open, but does not make every receiver compatible: appropriate hardware and protocol are necessary.

I discuss telemetry possibilities, while noting that I have not installed or tested that sensor system yet. GPS, current and per-cell voltage are not data my car already sends. Such a setup requires checking the specific receiver, sensors and configuration.

Using It on a Computer

I do use the MT12 wheel and trigger as a controller for VRC Pro and ReCharge RC.

USB supports joystick mode and storage access for managing files. The video also mentions Bluetooth joystick through ExpressLRS; this depends on the module and configuration, rather than simply having EdgeTX.

Backing up models and the SD card is particularly useful with several configured cars. I introduce EdgeTX Buddy and Companion without making this an update guide. Back up files and consult your version’s documentation before changing firmware or configuration.

Controls and Display in My Use

I find the wheel and trigger comfortable and use the two-switch expansion module. Changing physical controls fits the idea of adapting the radio to its purpose.

The monochrome display is modest, but I have had no sunlight readability problems. That is my assessment, rather than measured brightness comparison.

I also value RadioMaster offering spare parts. Before relying on a repair, I would check its exact reference and availability; no component should be assumed permanently in stock.

Who I Would Recommend It To

It suits someone with several cars who enjoys configuration and wants an adaptable foundation. If you want four quick adjustments and no menus, EdgeTX flexibility may be more burden than benefit.

The MT12 asks me to learn initially and lets me build a reusable setup. For a simpler Wltoys transmitter change, see the 124017 and 144010 upgrade guide.
