This guide's video (Spanish)
One of the channel’s most frequent questions is which battery to buy for the Wltoys 124017. After using it off-road and in my asphalt project, my first check is simple: the pack must fit the car properly. Next I check the connector and whether its voltage suits the installed electronics.
Start with Shape and Dimensions
The video shows the long packs I use and how they are secured in the tray. Shorter, taller formats have caused clearance problems under the upper chassis.
The mAh figure does not tell you whether a battery fits. Compare length, width and height with the available space, including cable exits. The body must close and the restraint must hold the pack without crushing it.
The tray shown has two length positions. I use the longer setting in the recording; check your car before choosing a longer pack.
These observations concern the 124017. I do not transfer the same battery choices to the 144001 or 144010, where available space differs.
2S and 3S: Confirm Compatibility First
I have used both voltages in my car. On 2S it is already fast; 3S requires much more care with steering and control, as the full 124017 review shows.
Compatibility depends on the electronics actually installed. Check the ESC and the rest of the system before increasing voltage: neither the model name nor a matching plug proves 3S compatibility.
Options Shown in the Video
These two Turnigy packs are identified in the recording’s description. They document what I use, subject to checks on your car:
| Battery mentioned | Listed connector | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Turnigy LiPo 3S 2200mAh | XT60 | Actual pack dimensions and system compatibility with 3S LiPo. |
| Turnigy LiHV 3S 2400mAh | XT60 | Dimensions, compatibility with LiHV charging voltage and a suitable charger. |
In the video the Turnigy LiHV is my favourite because of its response in my car. That describes my experience with that setup; it does not make every LiHV a direct replacement for every 124017.
I also mention Zeee and Ovonic with T-Plug, and Gens Ace with XT60. Check both the chosen pack’s connector and the one actually fitted to your car. The options do not all use the same plug.
The video links are at the end. Check the selected variant, dimensions and connector in the current listing before buying.
LiHV: Look at Fully Charged Voltage
The difference is not just nominal voltage. A conventional LiPo normally charges to 4.20V per cell; a LiHV designed for it can reach 4.35V per cell. For 3S, that means 12.60V versus 13.05V.
The SkyRC charging documentation distinguishes these values. The charger setting must match the exact battery, and the car’s electronics must accept its maximum voltage. Supporting conventional 3S LiPo does not by itself establish support for fully charged 3S LiHV.
Capacity and Discharge: Do Not Just Chase the Biggest Number
The video uses packs around 2200mAh as a practical reference and explains why I would not chase huge C ratings for this setup. I also let the car cool before running another battery.
Consider actual discharge capability and system demand. A high label rating does not replace that check. More mAh does not force more current into the motor, though it can allow longer runs and greater heat accumulation.
My priorities are compatible voltage, a suitable shape, the correct connector and a battery appropriate to the car’s demand. Then I consider capacity, weight and price. This avoids purchases that look perfect on paper but do not suit your actual car.

Turnigy BOLTX LiHV 3S 2400 mAh — XT60
The BOLTX pack cited in channel tests. Confirm dimensions, XT60 and charger/electronics compatibility with fully charged LiHV voltage; testing one car does not validate every revision.
-
Turnigy LiPo 3S 2200 mAh — XT60
Check size, XT60 connector and that your electronics support 3S.
-
Zeee LiPo 3S 2200 mAh — T-Plug
Select the T-Plug variant and verify dimensions and 3S compatibility. These differ from the catalogue's 144001 batteries.
-
Gens Ace LiPo 3S 2200 mAh — XT60
Check the XT60 variant, dimensions and your electronics' 3S support.
-
Ovonic LiPo 3S 2200 mAh — T-Plug
Check T-Plug, dimensions and 3S compatibility. Equivalence with other 2200mAh packs is not assumed.
