I have used DumboRC in several cars and like how straightforward it is to adjust. In this video I go through its controls and show two additional uses of its channels and connections: lighting and an RC simulator on a computer.

A Simple Transmitter and a Suitable Receiver

My six-channel transmitter is used with X6FG gyro receivers. From the transmitter I adjust trims, steering and throttle travel, reverse their directions and set the receiver gyro’s intervention.

It lacks the model memories and display of other radios. When changing cars I check the settings, especially reversing and neutral. That simplicity suits me, but requires care each time I change vehicles.

I mention using it for long speed runs without losing signal. This is my experience, rather than a test establishing guaranteed range in every environment.

Connecting a Light Does Not Give You Control

In the demonstration I first connect lights to receiver power, which keeps them on. To control them from the transmitter, I add a lighting control module on an auxiliary channel.

The module interprets the channel signal and changes the lights’ state. Mine has several modes selected with the transmitter button. I do not assume every module has those modes or brightness adjustment.

Before connecting, I check polarity markings and the voltage accepted by the lights and module. Receiver power pins alone are not a switch controlled by a button.

Using the Transmitter on a Computer

I also show an adapter cable connecting my transmitter to the PC’s USB port. In the game I run its setup wizard to assign steering and throttle.

I use it to practise progressive steering and coordinate turning with throttle. It is enjoyable when I cannot go driving, though a simulator does not reproduce every real-world condition.

The linked cable corresponds to this demonstration. Check your transmitter version’s port and compatibility; an arbitrary USB cable is not necessarily a substitute.

My View

It remains an option that has worked well for starting out and simple projects. If you need more settings, memories and programming, see my RadioMaster MT12 experience.
